What is included in publishing a black and white Soft Cover
book with AuthorCrossing?
AuthorCrossing's Soft Cover self-publishing is built right into our Web site. After registering
with AuthorCrossing, you can create your own book by walking through our online publishing
application. It's easy-to-use and there is no cost to use it.
Our Soft Cover DIY-publishing includes the
construction of a book ready for print-on-demand printing as a perfect bound book.
We will place your manuscript into the margins required for the book size of your
choice. You can select the cover design and selling price. Once you finish the publishing
process and your book is published, your book receives its own Web page with in
our AuthorCrossing Bookstore (unless you
choose to keep you book "private," in which case it will not be listed
on our site and only you will be able to purchase it).
What are the basic steps involved in creating a soft cover
book?
First, simply enter basic information about your book, such as title and book size.
Second, you upload your manuscript through our Web site then preview and approve
it. Third, you design your cover. Forth, you select the selling price/ royalty for
the book. Fifth, you compose marketing material for your book (including an "about
the book," "about the author" and "free preview/ excerpt")
and supply information about the book's targeted audience (all ages, children, teens,
adults, private), keywords and genre. Last, you you approve and publish your finished
book.

What black and white Soft Cover book sizes are available to
choose from?
Choose from a 5'' x 8'', 6'' x 9'', or 8.25'' x 11'' book.
What kind of paper and binding are used for the books?
Only high-quality paper and materials are used to create our books. All books are
perfect bound, which is a standard for most paperback books. A perfect bound book
has a true spine with a flat surface where text can be placed. The pages are cut
evenly and glued and bound in the spine.
The 6x9 and 5x8 books are printed on 55lb.,
offset*, opaque, 444 PPI**, crème white and acid-free paper. The 8.25x11
books are printed with 50lb., offset, opaque, 512 PPI, white and acid-free paper.
For all book sizes, the cover is printed on 100lb., offset, white enamel paper and
laminated (glossy).
*Offset is a type of paper that is suitable
for book printing.
**PPI means "pages per inch." A page
in this case means the actually piece of paper, or front and back of a sheet of
paper, which technically in the book would be counted as two pages of text.

What is the cost of publishing a soft cover book through AuthorCrossing?
There is no cost to publish your soft cover book through AuthorCrossing. You can use our
"self-service," DIY-publishing application for free. You do have the
option to purchase the finished book after it is published.
There are also materials and services to enhance your book that you can choose to
purchase through the Services Store; however, you are not obligated to purchase
anything.
